Government of Yukon invests $6.22 million in affordable housing in five Yukon communities

The construction of approximately 78 new affordable homes is being supported through the seventh round of the Housing Initiatives Fund. The Government of Yukon is committing $6.2 million to fund these shovel-ready, partner-led housing projects.

Additionally, the Government of Yukon is investing $20,000 to further advance the development of affordable housing concepts, showcasing the government’s ongoing dedication and effort to housing needs for Yukoners.

The proponents of the shovel-ready projects selected to receive funding are:

  • Carcross/Tagish First Nation – Carcross
  • Carmacks Development Corporation – Carmacks
  • Klondike Development Organization – Dawson
  • Prestige Enterprise – Whitehorse
  • Ta’an Kwach’an Council – Whitehorse
  • Trondek Hwechin First Nation – Dawson
  • 535714 Yukon Inc (Yukon Hot Springs Resort)– Ibex Valley

One proposal is receiving funding for further concept development:

  • 841151 Yukon Inc. – Whitehorse

Since 2018, the program has committed nearly $37 million in funding to unlock more than $400 million in total proponent spending. This has supported the development of 845 affordable homes for Yukoners.

The next intake for the Housing Initiatives Fund is planned for fall 2024.

Investing in community partnerships is a central part of our government’s strategy to incentivize more affordable housing development across the territory. With this most recent intake of the Housing Initiatives Fund, I am pleased to see another strong cohort of projects and partners coming forward, demonstrating a shared commitment to building new affordable homes in Yukon communities. I thank all First Nations governments, First Nations development corporations, private developers, contractors, community organizations, entrepreneurs and the public whose contributions are helping meet the Yukon’s growing demand for affordable housing.

Premier and Minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Ranj Pillai
