The Government of Yukon has announced further details of its $1 million Trade Resilience Program, created to support Yukon businesses facing challenges caused by U.S. trade decisions and Canadian countermeasures. The program also funds projects that help the Yukon economy adapt to these changing trade conditions.
The goal of the program is to keep support flexible and responsive. The program is divided into three targeted streams to ensure the government can provide strategic support where it will have the most impact. A key objective is to reduce Yukon’s reliance on U.S. markets in key sectors.
These streams include:
- Stream 1: Funding for industry organizations
- This stream funds projects led by industry organizations to support priorities expressed by the business community.
- Applications will be accepted through an expression-of-interest process. For example, buy or invest local campaigns or workshops delivered by specialists.
- Applications for this stream will be accepted throughout the year.
- Stream 2: Funding for individual businesses
- This stream provides financial support for businesses that can demonstrate direct negative impacts on their operations, caused by U.S. tariffs or Canadian countermeasures, to support their adaptation plans.
- It is designed to build long-term resilience in Yukon businesses. It is not intended to replace lost revenue or products but to support adaptation that helps keep the economy strong.
- Applications will be accepted through an expression-of-interest process.
- This stream will have two tiers:
- Tier 1: Applications requesting up to $10,000
- Tier 2: Applications requesting up to $50,000
- Yukoners must submit their Expressions of Interest for Tier 2 projects by 4:30 pm Yukon Standard Time on September 2, 2025, or November 3, 2025.
- Stream 3: Funding for commissioned projects
- This stream provides financial support for directly commissioned trade-related projects. This stream will allow the Government of Yukon to advance projects that would only be practical if directly commissioned by the Government of Yukon.
- Proposals for Stream 3 are accepted throughout the year.
Eligibility criteria, submission deadlines and overall guidelines can be found on the Trade Resilience Program webpage.
The Government of Yukon will continue to assess the impacts of unjustified tariffs on the territory’s economy, advocate to federal partners on behalf of Yukon businesses and work to ensure its programming is best placed to complement supports offered by the Government of Canada.
Yukon businesses, like those in the rest of Canada, are navigating a highly uncertain period as the U.S. administration moves forward with mutually harmful tariffs on Canadian goods and resources, attacking the globally recognized rules-based systems for trade. This Trade Resilience Program allows us to support directly affected businesses in adapting, while also strategically investing in projects that strengthen the long-term resilience of our economy.
The Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Government of Yukon’s Trade Resilience Program as a timely and strategic step toward supporting Yukon businesses during a period of heightened global uncertainty. By investing in locally driven solutions and helping businesses adapt to shifting trade conditions, this program reflects the priorities we’ve heard from our members and championed through our Economic Resilience and Development Committee. Targeted support and flexibility are critical to strengthening Yukon’s economic resilience and building a more self-reliant future.
