The Government of Yukon and the Canadian-Filipino Association of Yukon (CFAY) have signed a Letter of Intent to explore the development of a Filipino Community Hub. To support this initiative, the Government of Yukon will provide CFAY with $100,000 in funding to advance the hub’s feasibility and to help put systems in place for the association to complete the work.
The Letter of Intent was signed during the annual Fiesta Filipino this past weekend by Premier Mike Pemberton and Canadian-Filipino Association of Yukon President Dominic Pelayo.
With the Yukon's Filipino population continuing to grow, there is an increasing need for a dedicated space where Filipino-Yukoners can connect, celebrate their heritage and access culturally appropriate services. The Filipino Community Hub is expected to focus on areas such as creating a multipurpose space with a permanent office, a community centre, an early learning and childcare centre and potential housing solutions.
The Government of Yukon is committed to supporting diverse communities and fostering inclusive spaces where all Yukoners can thrive. Through partnerships and investments, the Government of Yukon works to strengthen cultural connections and improve quality of life across the territory.
The Filipino Community Hub is an exciting idea. It will be a place where Filipino-Yukoners can come together, celebrate their culture and connect with each other across all ages. It’s about building community, sharing traditions and creating a real sense of belonging. I’m proud our government is supporting this important step and I can’t wait to see how the Canadian-Filipino Association of Yukon brings this vision to life.
As the Filipino community in the Yukon continues to thrive and expand exponentially, we are consistently dedicated to nurturing our members while we share the richness of our culture to the broader community. The dream of realizing our vision for a Filipino Community Hub, where we can gather, support one another, and proudly celebrate our heritage, is a milestone we are deeply committed to achieving. I am honoured to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Yukon for their instrumental role in bringing us closer to this dream. Your unwavering support for the Canadian-Filipino Association of the Yukon's initiative to create a welcoming space that embodies our community's values and traditions is truly appreciated. Maraming Salamat / Thank you!
