Government of Yukon provides update on implementation of Independent Review Board recommendations

The Government of Yukon is improving its regulatory and enforcement oversight of mining in the territory, following the heap leach failure that occurred at the Eagle Gold Mine. All recommendations of the Independent Review Board that examined the failure of the Eagle Gold Mine are being implemented. The government is also working with industry to ensure these recommendations are incorporated into ongoing operations as part of its commitment to modernize minerals legislation and advance regulatory improvements.

Of the 56 recommendations, 52 are implemented and four are in progress. The government expects all recommendations to be completed by spring 2027.

Details on the Government of Yukon’s work to improve its regulatory and enforcement oversight of mining in the Yukon can be found in an update on Yukon.ca.

We are implementing all the recommendations of the Eagle Gold Mine Independent Review Board. This work is strengthening the Government of Yukon’s regulatory and enforcement oversight of the mining industry and will help broadly improve mining practices in the Yukon.
