The Government of Yukon is recognizing Pride Month this August by supporting events and opportunities that celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners, including a Pride flag raising in Whitehorse and participation in the 2026 YXY Pride Parade.
Minister responsible for the Women and Gender Equity Directorate Laura Lang, alongside Queer Yukon Society executive director Niall Janssen, raised the Pride flag at the Jim Smith Building on 2nd Avenue, Whitehorse, on August 12. This marked the start of Whitehorse Pride and reflects the Yukon government’s commitment to supporting the rights, safety and inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners.
Yukoners have already showed their support through their attendance at community Pride events this summer. Ongoing Pride activities are scheduled at queeryukon.com/upcoming-events.
Pride Month celebrates the diversity, resilience and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and building communities where everyone is respected, valued and safe.
Pride Month is an important opportunity for Yukoners to support 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners and recognize the people, organizations and communities working to advance equality across the territory. Raising the Pride flag is a visible reminder that everyone deserves to live with dignity, safety and respect and our government remains committed to supporting inclusive communities.
A strong public service reflects the people and communities it serves. By taking part in Pride Month, the Yukon government is showing support for 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners and reaffirming the importance of workplaces and communities where people feel safe, welcome, respected and able to participate fully.
