Government of Yukon welcomes Biathlon Yukon into new facility ahead of Arctic Winter Games

The Government of Yukon welcomes Biathlon Yukon into their completed facility ahead of the Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse.

This new facility, a development managed by the Department of Community Services’ Infrastructure Development Branch, replaces the previous cabins and outbuildings as a base of operations for Biathlon Yukon. The new building will support the growing interest in biathlon and will serve as the primary venue for athlete coaching, training and development, in addition to hosting the Arctic Winter Games and other sporting events.

Included in the new facility is improved accessibility, expanded and integrated spaces, upgraded water and heating systems, enhanced parking options and driving routes to the building. With improved features and a renewed lifespan, the building will provide a healthy and more inviting recreational space for years to come.

The project was funded through a joint investment of more than $3.8 million from the governments of Canada and Yukon.

Investments in community infrastructure help strengthen the places where people live, train, and come together. This new facility will provide athletes with a modern, accessible space to pursue their sport and continue building Yukon’s strong biathlon tradition. Our government is proud to support projects that enhance quality of life, promote healthy lifestyles, and ensure northern communities have the recreational infrastructure they deserve.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Yukon Dr. Brendan Hanley

Sport has the unique power to inspire excellence and instill lifelong skills. At this new facility, Yukoners and visitors will foster community while embracing the sport of biathlon. Thank you to the Government of Canada for their partnership and supporting us in delivering modern recreation facilities for Yukoners to enjoy.

Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore

This new facility represents a major milestone for Biathlon Yukon and for sport development across the territory. Completing this project ahead of the Arctic Winter Games ensures our athletes, coaches, and officials have access to safe, modern, and fully functional infrastructure.
