Government of Yukon wishes Team Yukon good luck at the 2025 Canada Summer Games

On July 30, Members of Team Yukon gathered at Shipyards Park in Whitehorse for a pep rally to mark the beginning of their journey to the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Competing in 14 of 19 sports, Team Yukon will showcase their skill, determination and northern pride on a national stage. Leading Team Yukon into the opening ceremonies will be beach volleyball players Jennifer Tuton and Lily Kremer.

Tuton has represented Team Yukon in indoor volleyball since she was 14. Her first major games were the Western Canada Games in Swift Current. She was on the indoor volleyball team at the Canada Summer Games in St. Catherines and the Arctic Winter Games team in Wood Buffalo, Alberta. At the 2023 North American Indigenous Games, Tuton earned bronze in beach volleyball.

This will mark Kremer’s debut representing the Yukon in beach volleyball, though she brings significant experience from competing in major games. Kremer has attended the Western Canada Games, Canada Summer Games and Arctic Winter Games as a member of the indoor volleyball teams. Kremer has also played badminton at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island. The Canada Games are Canada’s largest amateur multi-sport event, held every two years with alternating winter and summer editions. This year’s Summer Games, running from August 8 to 25, will bring nearly 4,800 athletes, coaches and mission staff from across the country to St. John’s.

The Government of Yukon has invested $225,000 over two years to support Team Yukon’s participation. This funding reflects the Yukon government’s commitment to supporting athletic talent and providing the Yukon’s youth with opportunities to compete at the highest levels.

The Government of Yukon extends its best wishes to all Team Yukon members as they prepare to compete with pride and dedication in this national event.

The Canada Summer Games are the pinnacle of competition and achievement for many of our Yukon athletes. It is a tremendous honour to represent your home and the Government of Yukon is proud to support these athletes as they compete against the country’s best. We wish all the athletes the very best of luck in Newfoundland!

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

Congratulations on making Team Yukon, I am proud of each and every one of you. I extend my gratitude to the territory’s sport organizations and coaches for preparing our athletes for the games.
