Investing across Canada to build safe and strong communities

This is a joint news release between the Government of Canada and the Government of Yukon.

The Government of Canada is delivering over $18.7 million to the Yukon this year to create communities that are stronger and more connected. The Government of Yukon administers this funding and creates agreements with communities and First Nations governments to best support their infrastructure needs.

Communities can only grow to support more housing when there are investments in foundational infrastructure projects – like public transit, water systems and local roads and bridges. With today’s announcement, that is exactly what the Government of Canada is delivering on.

This funding supports everything from essential services like roads and water systems to recreational facilities. For example, in the Town of Watson Lake, funding is being used to enhance the Wye Lake Trail with improved surfaces, accessible seating, new signage and other upgrades to benefit residents and visitors year-round.

The Canada Community-Building Fund provides communities with the flexibility to strategically address present and future infrastructure needs.

Building a strong Canada starts with building strong communities. This investment will boost infrastructure projects that support housing and help create safe, healthy places for people to live, work and connect. We are proud to invest in the critical infrastructure that helps Yukon communities advance local priorities and supports their long-term growth.

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Arctic and Northern Affairs and Member of Parliament for the Yukon Dr. Brendan Hanley

This significant investment supports the vital infrastructure – roads, water systems and recreational spaces – that Yukon communities need to grow sustainably and create more opportunities for affordable housing and quality of life for all Yukoners.

Premier Mike Pemberton

The Canada Community-Building Fund is a critical source of funding that allows First Nations, municipalities and unincorporated communities across the territory to advance their own community-specific priorities. The Government of Yukon is pleased to play an administrative role with this fund and help improve the lives of all residents. Thank you to the Government of Canada for this continued support.

Minister for Community Services Richard Mostyn

Quick facts
  • The Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) will deliver $26.7 billion between 2024–34 in federal funding to catalyze core infrastructure investments. In 2025-26, the CCBF will provide $2.5 billion to 3,700 communities across Canada to support local infrastructure priorities.

  • In 2025–26, the Yukon will receive $18.75 million to make strategic infrastructure investments across 19 project categories. Since 2015, the federal government has invested $24.2 billion across Canada through CCBF, including more than $181 million in Yukon communities.

  • The CCBF is a permanent, indexed source of funding provided to provinces and territories, who in turn flow this funding to local governments and other entities to support local infrastructure priorities.

  • The CCBF ties access to funding to actions by provinces, territories and municipalities to support infrastructure projects that help increase housing supply and build connected communities.
