Jeremy Harper to be nominated for Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly

Premier Sandy Silver intends to nominate Jeremy Harper for the office of the Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly.

Jeremy Harper was elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election on April 12, 2021, in the electoral district of Mayo-Tatchun.

The Speaker represents and speaks for the whole Legislative Assembly. The Speaker enforces the rules and conventions of the Legislative Assembly; they treat all MLAs equally and ensure that they get a fair opportunity to participate in the proceedings. The Speaker also allows the government to conduct its business in an orderly manner.

I am pleased to confirm my intention to nominate Jeremy Harper as Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly. He has incredible values and his experience has prepared him for this position. He understands the value of treating all sides fairly and the importance of each MLA position. I know he will create a collaborative, civil environment full of good will.

Premier Sandy Silver

I am honoured Premier Silver would consider me for this position. Should I become the Speaker, I will do  my part to ensure all members are heard and treated equally.
