Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore has issued the following statement:
“I had the privilege of representing the Government of Yukon at the June 23 to 25 meeting of provincial and territorial Ministers responsible for local government in Jasper, Alberta. We worked together to advance shared priorities that strengthen communities across Canada.
“This table is a vital forum for provinces and territories to exchange practical solutions, align on common goals and coordinate our work with the federal government. This helps shape national conversations on sustainable infrastructure, local governance, community resilience and the tools communities need to plan, grow and adapt. As incoming Chair, I am committed to ensuring northern and Yukon perspectives help drive that work forward.
“We also met with Minister Gregor Robertson, Canada’s Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, to highlight the need for stable, predictable and flexible infrastructure funding that reflects local priorities and responds to rising costs and supply chain pressures. I extend my thanks to Minister Dan Williams, Alberta’s Minister of Municipal Affairs, for hosting us in Jasper.
“I am honoured to take on the role of Chair. This opportunity gives the Yukon a strong voice in national discussions that directly affect our municipalities and local advisory councils – from infrastructure and community capacity to housing enabling investments and the realities northern and remote communities face. It also creates an opportunity to bring forward priorities Yukon municipalities have consistently identified through Association of Yukon Communities' advocacy.”
