Minister Silver provides update on 2022–23 Public Accounts

Minister Sandy Silver has issued the following statement:

“On October 30, I promised to keep Yukoners informed about the ongoing progress and development of the 2022–23 Public Accounts. The scheduled date for tabling the Public Accounts for the 2022–23 fiscal year will be November 22, 2023.

“As the Minister of Finance, I am committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in sharing information about the Government of Yukon's financial activities.

“It is important to note that the delay in tabling the Public Accounts beyond the legislated deadline comes, primarily, from meticulously incorporating new accounting standards introduced by the Public Sector Accounting Board. Our commitment to maintaining full compliance with the latest accounting rules and guidelines has necessitated this additional time. Throughout this process, we have been working closely with the Office of the Auditor General of Canada to ensure that the new standards are accurately incorporated and approved.

“We appreciate the patience of Yukoners as we diligently work to meet the highest standards of financial reporting. We look forward to sharing a comprehensive account of the government's finances for the 2022–23 fiscal year with Yukoners in the coming days. This commitment reflects our dedication to upholding transparency, accountability and the highest standards in financial governance."

Quick facts
  • The Public Accounts report the actual financial results for the prior fiscal year and the financial position at the end of that fiscal year.

  • The Office of the Auditor General of Canada is responsible for verifying that the consolidated financial statements of a territory fairly present its financial results in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards. The audit is not an opinion on the status of the jurisdiction’s finances.
