New COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund available for non-profits and non-governmental organizations

In partnership with Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon, the Government of Yukon is launching a short-term COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund for non-profits and non-governmental organizations.

The program will run until December 31, 2022, and will provide up to $10,000 to eligible organizations to create and maintain a safe environment for staff and clientele, stabilize service delivery, resume fundraising activities, increase earned revenue and take advantage of existing and future opportunities for recovery support through all levels of government. Organizations can retroactively access this support for costs that were incurred starting February 1, 2022.

The Yukon’s non-profit sector provides critical services to Yukoners across the territory. The sector comprises hundreds of organizations, employing approximately 2,000 people in 2019 and accounting for 6.5 per cent of the territory’s nominal GDP in 2017.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our government has stepped in with many support funds and programs to help keep local businesses afloat and our economy on track. Non-governmental organizations and non-profits play critical roles in our communities and provide valuable services to Yukoners across the territory. I want to thank Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon for helping deliver this funding that will provide significant benefits to Yukoners.

Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai

This funding is welcome news for the volunteer organizations in the Yukon. The volunteer sector has been hard hit during the pandemic, fundraising opportunities have fallen dramatically and organizations have struggled to maintain staffing and service delivery levels.  Being able to access relief funding will help our vital NGOs rebound.

Linda Casson, President of Volunteer Bénévoles Yukon
