New government reconvenes Yukon Legislative Assembly with Throne Speech

The 36th Yukon Legislative Assembly opened on Monday with a Speech from the Throne delivered by the Honourable Adeline Webber, Commissioner of Yukon.

The speech outlined the new government’s priorities to address housing, health care, education and community safety while fostering economic growth and strong partnerships with Yukon First Nations.

Key priorities include:

  • tackling the housing crisis by unlocking land for development and cutting red tape to speed up construction;
  • protecting Yukoners from proposed power rate hikes while investing in cost-effective energy infrastructure for the future;
  • transforming health care to meet the needs of a growing and aging population, ensuring access no matter where Yukoners live;
  • refocusing education resources to strengthen classroom supports and improve student outcomes;
  • restoring community safety with stronger enforcement and proactive prevention strategies;
  • creating conditions for private-sector success to drive job creation and prosperity; and
  • building trust in decision-making and deepening relationships with Yukon First Nations.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the government will table the 2025–26 Supplementary Estimates to account for the previous government’s spending and ensure adequate authority through to Budget 2026–27.

Yukoners have given us a clear mandate to make the territory the best place in Canada to live, work and raise a family. The business of governing cannot wait. By reconvening the legislative assembly, we are demonstrating our commitment to immediate action on the issues facing Yukoners.
