New online system makes booking appointments for sexually transmitted infection testing easier

The Government of Yukon has launched a new online sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing appointment booking page on Yukon.ca to make it easier for Yukoners to access confidential and timely sexual health services.

The new booking page allows Yukoners to schedule STI testing appointments online, at a time that works best for them. This service provides a private and convenient option for people who may find it difficult to book appointments by phone. Booking by phone will continue to be available. The online option is an additional, confidential service that improves access to frontline care. No referral is required for STI testing.

The online booking page allows clients to:

  • book appointments at any time;
  • choose an appointment time that fits their schedule; and
  • access services in a confidential and convenient way.

Sexually transmitted infections continue to be a concern in the Yukon. Over the last decade, they have been among the most reported communicable diseases, with an average rate of 808.2 cases per 100,000 people. The Yukon’s rates of total syphilis cases (both infectious and non-infectious) rose from 12 cases in 2021 to 68 cases reported in 2022 and 78 cases in 2023. Data for 2024 shows gonorrhea cases increased by 540 per cent compared to 2023.

Early testing and treatment help protect individual health and reduce transmission in the community. STI testing is free and confidential.

Yukoners can book an appointment by visiting Yukon.ca/infectious-disease-control.

Anyone who is sexually active should consider routine STI testing, especially if they:

  • have had a new sexual partner;
  • have multiple sexual partners;
  • have symptoms; or
  • have been notified by a partner or health care provider that they may have been exposed to an STI.
