Premier Pillai builds connections with Philippines, Indonesia and Japan

Today, Premier Ranj Pillai sat down with Consuls General of the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan during separate meetings in Vancouver.

The Premier met with newly-confirmed Consul General of the Philippines, Arlene Magno, to congratulate her on her new appointment. Premier Pillai continued discussions on streamlining immigration to the Yukon for Filipinos and explored the key sectors and skills that the Yukon is seeking to attract to fill employment needs.

The meeting with Hendra Halim, Consul General of Indonesia, built on a discussion that began with the Consul General’s visit to the Yukon late last year. Topics included Indonesia’s interest in the Yukon’s mining and technology sectors, student attraction, and economic immigration and skill-sharing opportunities for Indonesian people.

Engagement also continued with Consul General of Japan, Kohei Maruyama, who visited the territory this February. Conversations with Consul General Maruyama centred on tourism, critical minerals, student attraction, Arctic cooperation and deepening the understanding of the governance and cultural landscapes in both jurisdictions.

I would like to thank the Consuls General for their continued interest in the Yukon. By deepening our international relations, we can explore more partnership opportunities to continue to grow our economy, support tourism and immigration and celebrate our broad range of shared interests.

Premier Ranj Pillai
