Premier’s statement on the passing of Ken McKinnon

Premier Sandy Silver released the following statement:

It was with great sadness that my colleagues and I learned of the passing of long time Yukoner, and former Commissioner Ken McKinnon.

Ken was a businessman, politician and advocate for Yukon. In 1961 Mr. McKinnon became the youngest person ever elected as a Member of the Yukon Territorial Council where he served until 1974. A passionate advocate for sport, he was the first President of the Arctic Winter Games' International Committee. Mr. McKinnon served as Commissioner of the Yukon from 1986 to 1995. He was a smiling face and warm ambassador for the Yukon his entire life. His passing is a loss many Yukoners will feel deeply.

On behalf of all Yukoners I would like to offer my deepest condolences to his lifelong companion and best friend, his wife Judy, his family, and friends.
