Public engagement on comprehensive health review begins

Yukoners are being asked to share their experiences, ideas and thoughts on health and social programs and services in Yukon through an online discussion board and paper-based survey.

The engagement is being led by the Independent Expert Panel, which is made up of Yukoners and health systems experts from outside the territory. The panel hopes to hear from a diverse group to help shape how the Government of Yukon can improve services, better allocate existing financial and human resources, and find creative solutions to meet residents’ needs.

Public meetings will take place in Dawson City, Watson Lake and Whitehorse during the first two weeks of June. Within the next few weeks, the Independent Expert Panel will also be reaching out to community partners to set up in-person meetings.

The Independent Expert Panel will prepare a summary of what they heard and learned through this engagement. The summary will be shared with Yukoners later this fall, when there will be another opportunity for citizens and community partners to provide input.

We want to hear from Yukoners about how we can make changes to Yukon’s health and social programs and services in order to improve the health and wellness of all Yukoners. We are pleased to support the Independent Expert Panel find ways to ensure the territory’s health care systems provide Yukoners with good value for money in a way that delivers positive experiences for patients, clients and providers.

Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost

The Independent Expert Panel wants to speak to as many organizations and people as possible to inform our review and our recommendations to the government. This review is very broad and focusses not on cost cutting or cost reduction but on how to improve the programs and services that support citizens. We know that people who use these programs and services are best suited to tell us to make them better and we look forward to speaking with them over the coming months.

Independent Expert Panel Chair Bruce McLennan
