Statement on behalf of Minister of Community Services on Whitehorse infrastructure upgrades

Minister of Highways and Public Works and Environment Nils Clarke, on behalf of Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn, has issued the following statement:

“Today, our government, in collaboration with the Government of Canada and the City of Whitehorse, announced funding for two infrastructure projects in Whitehorse. The Canada Games Centre will see improvements to its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system. The City of Whitehorse’s public transit system will modernize with the Whitehorse Transit Services Driver Shuttle project.

“The Canada Games Centre supplies invaluable services in sport and recreation. Yukoners come to work, play and lead active lifestyles at this facility. We are grateful to see the Government of Canada invest over $4.5 million to support the City of Whitehorse with important upgrades that will improve air quality and ventilation while also helping the facility conserve energy.

“The Whitehorse Transit Services Driver Shuttle project modernizes public transit with the addition of two electric vehicles to shuttle transit drivers to and from active routes. This allows buses to stay on their active routes with multiple drivers. Our government is proud to invest $32,500 towards this project and we are grateful for the additional investment of $97,500 from the Government of Canada.

“Thank you to the Government of Canada and the City of Whitehorse for supporting these projects. It makes every difference for Whitehorse residents and the Yukon. This is invaluable infrastructure.”
