Statement from Premier Pillai and Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy on Yukon-Alaska relations

Premier Ranj Pillai and Governor of Alaska Mike Dunleavy have issued the following statement:

"On November 25, 2024, we had a productive call with Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy to strengthen the important relationship between Yukon and Alaska. It is always a pleasure to connect, as we work together to build meaningful cross-border partnerships that benefit both Yukoners and Alaskans.

“Our conversation focused on Arctic security, a critical priority as we navigate the evolving geopolitical landscape and the unique challenges faced by northern communities. This included discussions around the recently announced Arctic Security Advisory Council report and investment to explore creating a Canadian Institute for Arctic Security in the Yukon.

“We also discussed how we can collaborate on shared priorities, such as infrastructure development and fostering economic resilience across the North. We both care deeply about expanding trade and creating strong, sustainable economies and our conversation reflected our commitment to these goals.

“We are encouraged by the progress we have made and look forward to the opportunities ahead. Together, we can work toward a secure, prosperous and sustainable future for the North and for all northerners.”
