Statement from Minister Bellmore on Canadian Library Month

Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore has issued the following statement:

“I invite every Yukoner to join me in observing Canadian Library Month this October by visiting their local library.

“This year’s theme, Loud for Libraries, celebrates the valuable role libraries play in civil society. Libraries are more than just somewhere to find books. They are places of community connection that promote cultural awareness, provide educational programs and support freedom of expression.

“Special library month events occurring in the Yukon include an author tour with Canadian writer Richard Van Camp. Van Camp will present free literary programs in Haines Junction, Teslin and Whitehorse, including the Indigenous Book Club on October 13.

“At the Whitehorse Public Library, a classical guitarist from Whitehorse Concerts will be performing October 15, Berton House writer in residence Rebecca Thomas will present a poetry reading on October 18, there will be a Silent Disco on October 26 and a Library Bingo happening throughout the month. Plus, thanks to a partnership with local businesses, library card holders receive special perks just by showing their library cards.

“I encourage everyone to visit their local library to find out what might be happening in their area.

“Happy Library Month!”
