Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore has issued the following statement:
“It is with a great sense of Yukon pride that I congratulate skier Sonjaa Schmidt and biathlete Nadia Moser on being named to their sports’ final Team Canada rosters at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
“Sonjaa and Nadia continue an exciting trend of Yukoners who are representing Canada on the Olympic stage.
“Making Canada’s Olympic team is an incredible accomplishment and serves as an inspiration to all of us here in the Yukon. When Sonjaa and Nadia are competing in Milano Cortina, I know they will have the full support of everyone from Old Crow to Beaver Creek to Watson Lake and all points in between.
“Of course, an accomplishment of this magnitude does not happen alone. I offer my congratulations to their friends and family who supported them on their Olympic journey.
“I also extend my gratitude and congratulations to their coaches and teammates for supporting, teaching and challenging them on their path to the Olympics.
“The Olympic Games are always an exciting time for Canadians to celebrate and take pride in our athletes. This year, that excitement will be doubled for us here in the Yukon.
