Statement from Minister of Health and Social Services on National Nurse Practitioner Week

Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee has issued the following statement:

“This week is National Nurse Practitioner Week, an opportunity to honour the important work of nurse practitioners in the Yukon and across the country.

"Nurse practitioners are skilled health care professionals who work together with the healthcare team using a patient-centered approach to care. Through an emphasis on wrap-around support and evidence-based practices, nurse practitioners enhance community health care for all Yukoners.

“Nurse practitioners are a crucial part of our health care system. Thank you to all the nurse practitioners in our territory who play critical roles in our communities and in maintaining the wellbeing of Yukoners. Every day, they use their professional knowledge and skills to take care of us and our loved ones.

“Recognizing the important role that nurse practitioners play in our health care system, this year the Yukon government:

  • expanded the Find a Primary Care Provider Program at Yukon.ca/findprovider to offer Yukoners the opportunity to connect with nurse practitioners who are accepting new patients;
  • passed Bill No. 33 to streamline regulations and increase our ability to recruit nurse practitioners to the territory; and
  • allocated $464,000 for fiscal year 2023–24 to hire additional full-time community nurses and nurse practitioners.

“Nurse practitioners work tirelessly across the health care system. They are important front-line workers who continue to go above and beyond to make sure Yukoners get the care and support they need.

“Please take time to thank our nurse practitioners for their dedication, passion, contributions and expertise.”
