Statement from the Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke on the parking lot upgrades at Selkirk Elementary School

Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke has issued the following statement:

“Our government is committed to enhancing transportation infrastructure and prioritizing community safety for Yukoners. I am pleased to announce the successful completion of the parking lot improvements project at Selkirk Elementary School.

“These upgrades have already helped reduce traffic congestion in this high-traffic area, increased parking capacity for teachers and provided a safer drop-off zone for parents.

“The new parking lot includes electrical plug-ins for the winter months, clear wayfinding signage and enhanced lighting for improved visibility during darker days.

“This project was carried out as part of a broader plan to offset the parking spaces lost due to the construction of new schools in the Riverdale area. It also connects to existing and future multi-use trails in the area in order to promote active transportation. Our primary objective was to reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety by eliminating the need for the public to cross Lewes Boulevard.

"Thank you to everyone who completed this work. I look forward to continuing enhancements on important infrastructure, bringing lasting benefits to all Yukoners."
