Statement from Minister Ted Laking on the release of the Ombudsman land lottery report

The Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources has issued the following statement:

“I would like to thank the Ombudsman and their team for their work on this report which identifies improvements for the land lottery. We acknowledge the concerns raised in the report which have created challenges in the administration of the lottery processes.

“We respect and appreciate the Ombudsman's conclusions and are taking the findings and recommendations seriously. We accept the recommendations from the report and are reviewing next steps. We recognize the importance of ensuring the land lottery process is fair, transparent and responsive to the needs of Yukoners.

“Improving the land lottery process remains a priority and we have already begun this work through the introduction of the residential builder’s lottery pilot program, with further improvements from the report under consideration. We will continue to look for efficient ways to offer lots to the public while supporting builders and their businesses.  We look forward to sharing more as this work progresses.”
