Premier Mike Pemberton and Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn have issued the following statement:
“Today, the governments of Canada and Yukon announced another joint investment in vital infrastructure across the territory.
“Through the Government of Yukon’s contribution of more than $6.4 million, we are delivering on our commitment to work with Yukon First Nations and municipal governments to leverage federal dollars to build infrastructure that aligns with our territory’s priorities, including improvements to water services, roads and utilities. This work reflects the strong partnership and shared vision between our government and Prime Minister Mark Carney’s federal Liberal government.
“Water and sewer upgrades, along with associated road reconstruction, are coming to Faro, Watson Lake and Haines Junction. Infrastructure for water services are essential for creating healthy, sustainable communities. These systems are often unseen, but are core to our communities, supporting clean drinking water and safe wastewater conveyance and disposal.
“In Burwash Landing, a new boat launch will improve access to the lake for Kluane First Nation Citizens and visitors. This is another meaningful step towards enhancing access, stewardship and connection to the water for both the community and the Kluane First Nation.
“Thank you to all who help support the development of these new infrastructure projects – from dedicated public servants to contractors and our municipal and First Nations partners.
“We are proud to work so closely with our federal colleagues, whose contribution of $19.2 million through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program is helping make these projects possible. Investing in infrastructure is the cornerstone to creating vibrant communities across the Yukon, now and for future generations.”
