Statement from Premier Pemberton on Labour Day

Premier Mike Pemberton has issued the following statement:

“Labour Day is a time to thank all the hardworking people who keep the Yukon moving forward.

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Yukoners in many different sectors and communities. That experience has shown me how much every role matters – from those keeping essential services running on statutory holidays to those building our economy day by day.

“Whether you’re in Whitehorse or one of our rural communities, your work matters – and it makes a real difference.

“Our territory’s economy is strong because of the dedication of Yukoners from every walk of life. Everyone has a part to play in making the Yukon a great place to live and work. In July 2025, our unemployment rate dropped to 3.5 per cent – the lowest in the country once again. These numbers show just how resilient and adaptable Yukon workers are.

“This Labour Day, I hope you take a moment to appreciate the people around you – friends, neighbours, coworkers – who help shape the communities we all care about. Whether you’re on the job, enjoying retirement or simply taking a well-earned break: thank you.

“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I wish you a safe and relaxing Labour Day.”
