Statement from Premier Pemberton on U.S. Consul General Crowley’s visit

Premier Mike Pemberton has issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, our government welcomed the newly appointed U.S. Consul General Shawn Crowley for his first visit to the Yukon.

“As this was his first official visit, we focused on understanding his goals and priorities during his term, introduced him to the Yukon and highlighted our positive collaborative relationship.

“We discussed our commitment to protecting Yukoners and our historic relationship with Alaska. As Yukoners – and as Canadians – we know the current U.S. administration has taken positions that have strained relations with Canada. That is why it is so important to continue strengthening connections across our border.

“Following our meeting, Consul General Crowley also met with Ministers Clarke, McLean, Pillai, Silver and Streicker for a general discussion on Yukon related issues.

“I thank Consul General Crowley for his visit and we look forward to working closely to explore opportunities for partnership and continuing work with his office to advance areas of mutual interests and contribute to a stronger relationship.”
