Statement from Premier Pillai on Canadian Armed Forces Day

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“Every year on the first Sunday of June, we recognize Canadian Armed Forces Day. It’s a day to honour the many members and veterans of the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy and Royal Canadian Air Force who protect our country.

“This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War – a milestone that reminds us of the extraordinary sacrifices made by Canadians in defence of peace, freedom and democracy. While we are now 80 years removed from the end of that war, we continue to honour the bravery of all those who served. Their courage and sacrifice shaped the world we live in today. The impact of their service remains profound and deeply appreciated. We must never forget the countless acts of selfless sacrifice they made for the good of all.

“Here at home, we are proud of the contributions of the Yukon Detachment of Joint Task Force North and the local members of the 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group. They play a vital role in asserting Canada’s sovereignty, responding to emergencies and supporting northern communities.

“On behalf of the Yukon government, I want to thank every member of the Canadian Armed Forces – past and present – for your service. We are grateful for all you do to keep our country and communities safe.”
