Statement from Premier Pillai on Holi

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“On Sunday evening, Hindu Yukoners and friends gathered around fires to sing, dance and celebrate Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours.

“Marking the end of winter and the start of spring, Holi is a time to celebrate hope, peace and the triumph of light over darkness. Festivities include dancing, sharing food, lighting bonfires, spraying water and throwing coloured powder – orange for optimism, blue for vitality, green meaning harmony and red symbolizing joy and love.

“Here in the Yukon, Holi festivities provide an opportunity to embrace the increasing daylight hours and revel in the rejuvenation that spring offers.

“It is an opportunity for all Yukoners to acknowledge the valuable contributions of Indian and Nepalese friends and community members and to celebrate the diverse cultures that enrich the fabric of life in the Yukon, making it a truly remarkable place to call home.

“Warm wishes to everyone who celebrates Holi and may the light, colour and energy of the festivities uplift us all.

“Holi Hai!”
