Statement from Premier Pillai and Minister responsible for Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board Richard Mostyn on the National Day of Mourning

The following statement was released by Premier Ranj Pillai and Minister responsible for Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board Richard Mostyn:

“Today Yukoners and people around the world pause to pay respect to those who have lost their lives or suffered injury or illness due to a work-related incident.

“On this date, April 28, we renew our steadfast commitment to health and safety in the workplace.

“Last year in the Yukon, nearly 450 workers were impacted by a workplace injury that required time away from their jobs to recover. Sadly, there was one workplace fatality.

“We must continue working together to change the culture in the Yukon so that every worker can leave their workplace safe and healthy, every day.

“We invite all Yukoners to join this year’s Day of Mourning event at the Workers’ Memorial at Shipyards Park or online through the Yukon Federation of Labour’s Facebook page and on the Yukon Federation of Labour website.”
