Statement from Premier Sandy Silver and Minister John Streicker on Victoria Gold’s award for excellence in mine development

Premier Sandy Silver has issued the following statement:

“I remember when Victoria Gold poured their first bar of gold in the fall of 2019. They began commercial production on July 1, 2020, and in 2021 they successfully produced 164,222 ounces of gold.

“It is great to see their successful Eagle Gold Mine be recognized by the Association for Mineral Exploration’s 2021 E.A. Scholz Award for excellence in mine development in British Columbia or Yukon.

“When it comes to community, John McConnell and the Victoria Gold team have done much more than mining. In particular, I would like to thank them for their significant contribution to our schools through their Every Student Every Day initiative, promoting student engagement."

Minister John Streicker has issued the following statement:

“The Premier and I would like to congratulate the Yukon's John McConnell and the Victoria Gold team who are recipients of the AME’s 2021 E.A. Scholz Award for excellence in mine development in British Columbia or Yukon. They are being recognized for their achievement in developing and successfully bringing the Eagle Gold Mine into production.

“Throughout COVID-19, the Eagle Gold Mine has worked proactively to keep the community safe. The mine has provided many jobs and benefits to Yukoners, particularly to the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Citizens and the Village of Mayo. I look forward to seeing the mine and nearby communities continue to thrive and support Yukoners for years to come."
