Update on 2022–23 Public Accounts

Minister of Finance Sandy Silver has issued the following statement:

“The Government of Yukon is currently working towards tabling its 2022–23 Public Accounts, which reflect a full accounting of the government’s spending for that fiscal year.

“The Public Accounts provide accountability to Yukoners for spending decisions made during the budget cycle. They allow Yukoners to compare the estimates from budgets with the actual amounts spent over the course of the fiscal year. These numbers also help guide future decision making within the government.

“In 2022–23, the Government of Yukon adopted new accounting procedures, which require more detailed accounting and disclosure which must reflect in its financial statements. While the government has been ensuring that it conforms to these new standards, the adoption of these new accounting measures has added a significant amount of work to complete the 2022–23 Public Accounts, which may result in the government tabling its financial statements later than the legislated October 31 deadline.

“This government will always place transparency and accuracy at the forefront of its decision making as well as in the preparation of its public documents.

“We look forward to tabling our complete, audited Public Accounts for the 2022–23 fiscal year in the coming weeks."

Quick facts
  • The Public Accounts report the actual financial results for the prior fiscal year and the financial position at the end of that fiscal year.

  • The Office of the Auditor General of Canada is responsible for verifying that the consolidated financial statements of the territory fairly present its financial results in accordance with Canadian public sector accounting standards. The audit is not an opinion on the status of the jurisdiction’s finances.
