The Government of Yukon Wildland Fire Management Branch is sending four initial-attack crews, a division supervisor and an agency representative to support the Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection’s response to the Mukluk Fire near Tok, Alaska.
Personnel are available to assist on the Mukluk Fire because fire activity in the Yukon is low. Adequate crews and support staff remain at all Yukon fire bases.
The deployment reflects the long-standing practice of mutual aid and cooperation among wildfire management agencies. Recently, Alaskan firefighters helped the Yukon manage a wildfire near the Alaska Highway’s border crossing east of Tok. As fire activity shifts across North America throughout the season, trained personnel and specialized resources are shared to help jurisdictions respond to periods of increased wildfire activity.
Yukon Wildland Fire Management regularly participates in these resource-sharing efforts, both helping when local conditions allow and receiving support when operational demands require it. This collaborative approach ensures firefighting expertise is available where it is needed most while maintaining readiness to respond to wildfires in the Yukon.
Our neighbours in Alaska need our help and we are glad to answer the call. I am grateful our experienced fire crews can lend a hand as Tok navigates this challenging wildfire.
