The Government of Yukon is sending wildland fire resources to Alberta and Saskatchewan to help manage the challenging fire situation.
The Yukon is sending five initial attack crews and one agency representative to Alberta on May 30. One division supervisor and a division supervisor trainee will leave for Saskatchewan on June 1. Personnel will be deployed for up to 19 days.
The Yukon is also sending its heavy air tanker, an L-188 Electra, accompanied by its flight crew.
The Yukon is able to send personnel because fire activity is currently low. The territory will continue to evaluate its ability to send additional resources in support of its friends in the prairies. This assistance was requested through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
The Yukon is proud to stand together as Canadians and support our friends in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Our commitment to mutual aid enables us to most effectively use our resources to protect communities across our country.
