Yukon government approves land transfer to Dawson Society for Children and Families

On May 14, 2026, the Government of Yukon approved a land parcel transfer to Dawson Society for Children and Families, who operate the Little Blue Daycare in Dawson. Access to this land will enable the society to build a new early learning and child care centre, to be called the Big Blue Daycare. The land parcel is located on 5th Avenue and is approximately 880 square metres in size.

The transfer is coordinated by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources and the Department of Education as part of the Yukon government’s commitment to improve access to land development for early learning infrastructure.

By supporting projects like this in Dawson, the Yukon government is helping ensure communities have the infrastructure needed to support students and families now and into the future.

Having grown up in Dawson, this transfer means a great deal to me. This land will give Dawson more early childhood learning spaces and support the local workforce by providing more options for families. It is an honour to support this milestone and I look forward to seeing more Yukoners start their learning journey at the Big Blue Daycare.

Minister of the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources Ted Laking

With the support of the Yukon government, we've taken a significant step forward in delivering much-needed infrastructure improvements and increased capacity for early childhood education in Dawson. The 'Big Blue' project has been years in the making, and we're excited to see this important community vision finally come to life.

President of the Dawson Society for Children and Families, Alexa Mitchell
