As Yukoners across the territory celebrate Pride events this summer, the Government of Yukon is announcing $1.125 million in funding over three years (2026–29) for Queer Yukon Society.
This funding shows the Government of Yukon's support for Queer Yukon Society, whose new board and staff have worked closely with the government to stabilize the organization, including its financial management and internal operations.
The Yukon government is committed to fostering safe, inclusive and welcoming communities for 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners. The funding reflects the important role Queer Yukon Society plays across the territory and recognizes the organization's capacity to deliver programs and services that support wellbeing, connection and a sense of belonging.
Under the agreement, Queer Yukon will use the funding to:
- continue programming and supports for 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners in Whitehorse, Watson Lake and other Yukon communities;
- support 2SLGBTQIA+ culture and programming, including integrating Two-Spirit and Indigenous-led inclusion initiatives;
- coordinate events and initiatives that celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners such as Pride, Trans Awareness Month and Two-Spirit and Indigenous LGBTQQIA+ Awareness Celebration Day;
- support inclusion and wellbeing for 2SLGBTQIA+ Yukoners; and
- maintain the organization’s day-to-day operations.
I am pleased to announce this funding agreement as Yukoners celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ people, and the contributions they bring to our territory, at many Pride events this summer. I look forward to our continued work together to build safer, more inclusive communities.
This support from Yukon government is essential to being able to offer consistent programming and services that are responsive to our community’s needs across the Yukon. With this three-year funding agreement, we will be able to provide safe, affirming spaces and supportive communities where people of all ages can feel a sense of acceptance and belonging. These protective factors are key to ensuring a healthy community and a healthy Yukon.
