The Yukon Midwifery Program has hired a second registered midwife and anticipates being able to receive clients at the clinic as early as the first week in July. Whitehorse residents who are in their first 20 weeks of pregnancy will be able to apply for midwifery care prior to the program launch.
The midwifery clinic will be located at 9010 Quartz Road. Midwives will also have privileges at Yukon Hospitals.
The free program provides Yukoners with an additional option for safe, integrated care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Registered midwives are licensed, insured and fully integrated into the Yukon’s health care system. Midwives will work closely with other health providers to ensure Yukoners receive high quality care.
The program’s model of regulated and fully funded midwifery services is based on recommendations from local and national experts, extensive research and public and stakeholder engagement. The Yukon’s approach to midwifery care is aligned with the Canadian standards and best practices.
We are proud to have integrated midwifery into our Yukon health care system. It is important that expecting and new parents have additional options for pregnancy, birth and postpartum care. The midwifery clinic will start providing safe, regulated and publicly funded midwifery care early this July in Whitehorse. Expectant parents will be able to register online in late June.

The Government of Yukon’s Midwives Regulation has enabled the regulation, funding, and integration of midwifery services into Yukon’s health care system and will support the safe practice of midwifery in the territory.
An online application for midwifery services will be available in late June in advance of the clinic opening.
Initially, the Yukon Midwifery Program will accept applications from Whitehorse residents who are in their first 20 weeks of pregnancy.
The program will offer a full continuum of midwifery services for clients – from prenatal to postpartum care.
The government is working with the Yukon Hospital Corporation to ensure that registered midwives are fully privileged and can offer births either at home or in the hospital.
