Yukon Public Libraries introduces sensory tool kits

Whitehorse Public Libraries, in collaboration with Autism Yukon, are introducing sensory tool kits filled with helpful items people and families can borrow and explore. They are available at the Whitehorse Public Library.

Each kit contains a variety of items designed to support self-regulation, focus, calming, following instructions and managing transitions.

These kits can be used by people of any age; borrowers can check out one at a time. Kits must be picked up and returned to the staff at the Whitehorse Public Library.

Our libraries are a welcoming space and library staff consistently work to meet the needs of our community. I extend my gratitude for Autism Yukon’s work and collaboration with the library.

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn

It is exciting when we can learn from each other, appreciate our uniqueness and include all learning styles. It is truly wonderful and encouraging to see our local community become a more neurodivergent-friendly space. We were thrilled to partner with the Whitehorse Public Library on this project. As Temple Grandin says, the world needs all types of minds.

Executive director of Autism Yukon Rebecca Fenton
