The Yukon government is reporting more success from increased doctor recruitment efforts. Since November 2025, nine doctors have moved to the Yukon and three more are moving to the territory in August and September.
Based on confirmed and planned doctor relocations between November 2025 and September 2026, 12 doctors, including three who are Francophone, have relocated to the Yukon, or are expected to, during this period. Seven of these doctors will provide community-based primary care in Whitehorse, Dawson and Watson Lake.
As of July 20, 2,445 people were on the Find a Primary Care Provider list, down from 4,606 people on January 26.
Matching patients on the list and reducing its size is the result of several efforts, including through the Longitudinal Family Medicine Program, nurse practitioner attachment, weekly reconciliation with patient lists at the Centre de santé Constellation Health Centre and Referred Care Clinic and the ongoing efforts of Yukon doctors who directly accept patients.
Yukoners who do not have a primary care provider are encouraged to register with the Find a Primary Care Provider program.
We committed to taking action to recruit doctors and while there is much more work to be done, we are pleased to report more success. We thank Yukon doctors, nurse practitioners and partners, including the Yukon Medical Association and Yukon Hospitals, for working with the government in this combined effort, as this success is the result of all of us working together.
Recent physician recruitment and primary care attachment successes are encouraging to see and will make a tangible difference across the territory. While initiatives like the Longitudinal Family Medicine Program are showing real progress, Yukon doctors remain fully committed to working with health system partners until reliable health care access is a reality for every Yukoner.

Physician recruitment and primary care access
- Since November 2025, the Yukon has seen a steady increase in the number of physicians relocating to the territory.
- The last public update on May 1, 2026, reported six physician relocations between November 2025 and April 2026. These included physicians working in emergency care, hospital care and primary care in Watson Lake.
- Since April 2026, three additional physicians have relocated to the Yukon, including a psychiatrist, a physician in Dawson and a physician providing emergency department and permanent locum services.
- Three Francophone physicians are confirmed to arrive this summer, including two joining the Centre de santé Constellation Health Centre, one of whom will also provide services for hospitalized patients at Whitehorse General Hospital and one joining the Whitehorse General Hospital Emergency Department.
