Yukon wildfire crews deployed to Saskatchewan

The Government of Yukon has sent wildfire crews to Saskatchewan to assist with wildfire response. Saskatchewan is experiencing a significant wildfire season, with multiple communities currently under evacuation order.

Twenty initial-attack (Type 1) firefighters left Whitehorse on August 9, accompanied by a Government of Yukon agency representative. They will be deployed for up to 19 days.

These personnel are available for this deployment as fire activity in the territory is low. Adequate crews will remain at all Yukon fire bases. Should the fire situation change locally, the government can bring resources back to the Yukon.

We're proud to be able to support Saskatchewan during their very tough wildfire season. Our firefighters are both dedicated and highly trained and we’re glad to lend a hand when the situation at home allows.

Minister of Community Services Richard Mostyn
