Emergency status

A state of emergency was declared on March 27, 2020. It was extended for another 90 days on June 12, 2020.

Health care

  • Two Yukon residents have contracted COVID-19 while travelling in another province: https://yukon.ca/en/news/yukoners-contract-covid-19-while-travelling
  • There have been 170 tests conducted since July 1.
  •  Health care professionals providing COVID-19 tests have an expanded set of symptoms to watch for in Yukoners who have not travelled outside the territory: https://yukon.ca/en/news/expanded-testing-criteria-covid-19
  • The stand alone respiratory assessment centre reopened.
  • All admitted patients are now allowed one designated and consistent visitor at the Whitehorse General Hospital.
  • Outdoor visits for long-term care residents are now permitted.
  • To help Yukoners at risk during this pandemic, vulnerable populations can now access mental health and social supports online.  

Travel and borders

  • Canada and the U.S. have extended border closures to non-essential travel until August 21.
  • Residents of British Columbia and Yukon will be allowed to travel back and forth without the need to self-isolate for 14 days. Residents of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut will also be allowed to enter Yukon: https://yukon.ca/en/health-and-wellness/covid-19-information/borders-and...
  • Gatherings of up to 50 can take place and restaurants can operate at full capacity.
  • Individuals entering Yukon’s airports must wear a mask.
  • The Government of Canada will now require temperature screenings for all passengers travelling.
  • Anyone entering Yukon must check in with an Enforcement or CBSA Officer.

Businesses and financial relief

  • The support program to help Yukoners pay rent has been extended: https://yukon.ca/en/news/support-program-help-yukoners-pay-rent-extended
  • The Whitehorse Public Library has reopened
  • Residential tenants who are under a health protection measure after June 25 or who need to breach their tenancy agreement because they are under a COVID-19 health protection order are protected from eviction.

Enforcement and other guidelines

  • Phase 3 is expected to begin on August 1, 2020. Phase 3 is anticipated to take Yukon through until a COVID-19 vaccine is available.
  • As of July 20, 2020, some vehicles with out-of-territory licence plates will be provided with a visitor decal when they enter Yukon at a border check station: https://yukon.ca/en/news/july-22-2020-covid-19-update
