Yukon’s Early Learning and Child Care Infrastructure Fund helps expand and improve child care spaces in the Yukon. This fund supports non-profits, family day homes, Indigenous organizations and First Nations governments in underserved communities.
Funding
Minor project funding supports projects that:
- improve physical accessibility in licensed early learning and child care programs; or
- establish new family day homes in rural Yukon.
Funding covers accessibility upgrades up to $100,000 for costs like design, project management, construction, and playground equipment. Start-up costs are also covered up to $10,000 for new rural family day homes.
This funding is made possible through the Canada-Yukon Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
Who can apply
You must be a Yukon resident and fall under one of the following categories:
- a Yukon First Nations government;
- a Yukon society in good standing registered under the Yukon Societies Act, including Indigenous organizations;
- a Yukon-based not-for-profit incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act; or
- individuals interested in opening a family day home in rural Yukon communities.
You must :
- currently operate a licensed early learning and child care program;
- demonstrate that you meet regulatory requirements under the Child Care Act and regulations; or
- be intending to apply for a license to operate a family day home.
Third parties are not permitted to apply on behalf of fund applicants.
Eligible projects
- projects that increase the level of physical accessibility in existing licensed early learning and child care programs; and
- projects that will support the establishment of new rural family day homes.
Eligible costs
Eligible project costs include:
- construction to improve physical accessibility;
- landscaping and paths for accessible outdoor spaces;
- purchase of accessible playground equipment;
- modifications for family day homes like barrier-free entrances, stairwells and bathrooms; and
- fire safety protections.
Funding does not cover:
- personal-use equipment such as:
- computers
- furniture
- toys
- musical instruments unless essential to the project;
- pre-approval expenses, volunteer or board time;
- project cancellation costs, financing charges, loan interest;
- land purchases, unrelated equipment leasing, lease or mortgage payments;
- operations costs like salaries, consumables, insurance; or
- real estate fees.
Available funding
The funding available may not cover the entire costs of eligible projects. If your requested funding amount is not approved, you will need to outline your plan for securing the additional funding required to successfully complete your project.
The total funding available for 2024–25 intake is $320,000.

You’ll receive an email confirming your application. We’ll process applications in the order we receive them.
We may request more information or documents. If needed, we’ll place your application on hold until you respond. Applications will be withdrawn if required information is not submitted within 30 days.
You’ll receive a decision within 30 days of submitting a completed application. If your project is rejected, we’ll notify you of the reasons and you may choose to submit a revised application.
Reporting requirements
Within 30 days of project completion, all outstanding claims and reports must be provided. We’ll help you complete the project as per the project agreement.
Funding
The major project stream provides funding for planning, design, construction and renovation of existing facilities to create new early learning and child care spaces in the Yukon. Funding covers planning costs, like business plans and feasibility studies, through the Canada-Yukon Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.
Who can apply

- Francophone early learning and child care centre(s); or
- rural Yukon communities with a demonstrated need.
Projects must include:
- a detailed project plan showing the completion of construction by March 31, 2027; and
- provide roof of operational viability with a proposed budget and staffing plan.
Priority will be given to projects that:
- have the most impact on reducing child care shortages in rural Yukon, Francophone, or Indigenous-led programs; and
- can be completed on time and within budget.

If your requested funding amount is not approved, you will need to outline your plan for securing any additional funding required to successfully complete your project.
If you receive major project funding, you must operate any new facility as a child care centre for the minimum period shown below:

Eligible costs

- environmental assessment and permit fees;
- leasehold improvements with 5-year minimum lease from an arm’s length lessor;
- equipment purchases or leases;
- professional service for project management, design, engineering, site evaluations, architecture, accounting, legal, business planning; and
- modular building purchase and installation for child care facility use.
Funding does not cover:
