The Government of Yukon is inviting feedback from all Yukoners from February 1 to 29.
Your response will help inform the Yukon government’s work to update the Residential Landlord and Tenant Act so that it can better meet the needs of Yukoners in tenancy agreements.
The Act governs the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords with tenancy agreements for a rental unit. These agreements are also called rental agreements or leases.
Initial engagement
During an initial targeted engagement, a stakeholder group with diverse backgrounds identified several key issues common in many tenancy situations and potential solutions.
This process was called the Solutions Lab. More information about the process is available in the "Where can I find related information?" section.
This review
The Residential Tenancies Office also identified issues in administering the Act. We are asking questions based on the work of the stakeholder group and welcome additions to these ideas.
As part of the review, we are updating the Act by removing the section that allows evictions without a specific reason. We are asking for your feedback on other reasons to end a tenancy and other important topics. These topics include:
- rent control;
- mobile homes;
- roommates;
- the Residential Tenancies Office;
- clarifying the Act; and
- short-term rentals
Your input and feedback will help the Yukon government confirm what updates need to be made to the Residential Landlord and Tenant Act and accompanying regulations.
