Evacuation Alert
For Old Crow Evacuation Zones 1, 2 and 3
May 8, 2026, 12 p.m.

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Government of Yukon and Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation for Old Crow Evacuation Zones 1, 2 and 3 (see map). Other areas may be affected as the situation unfolds.

This alert is due to the risk of flooding along the Porcupine River.

If you are in Evacuation Zone 1, 2 or 3, be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

The Flood Response Team will help residents and visitors evacuate before flooding occurs, and during flooding if needed.

When preparing to evacuate, you should:
  • Pack an Emergency Bag and make an evacuation plan.
  • Stay clear of the Porcupine and Crow rivers, including riverbanks, when ice is breaking up or when water is running fast and high.
If there is flooding:
  • Tell your friends or family where you are, especially if you’re on the land, and your contact information, including your satellite phone or inReach.
  • Make a plan for your pets. Animals are not allowed inside the Reception Centre at the school.
  • If there is an evacuation, register at the Reception Centre at the school, even if you are not staying there.

Up-to-date information about break-up and emergency responses is posted regularly on the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Facebook page and will be available at the Reception Centre at the school. Information is also available at www.yukon.ca/emergencies.
