Our French classes are offered in partnership with the Association franco-yukonnaise (AFY) in Whitehorse.

    The schedule for the fall 2020 session is now available. The fall session runs from September to December.

    Year-round

    Focus classes

    Focus classes are short online classes about a specific topic or situation. These interactive classes are delivered year-round via Zoom.

    Email french.training@gov.yk.ca to receive the schedule and reminders for upcoming focus classes. If you have registered for a French course in the past year, you will automatically receive the schedule for focus classes.

     

    Fall 2020 session (September to December)

    Regular courses

    Add-on conversation workshops

    If you have registered for regular courses, you can choose to sign up for a series of 10 conversation workshops to further improve your speaking and listening skills.

    • 1.5-hour workshop each week for 10 weeks.
    • Conversation workshops in the fall 2020 session will be delivered online.

    Written French for work communication

    This new course is designed for advanced speakers who know French as a first or second language. Whether you wish to strengthen your writing skills or need opportunities to practice writing in French in professional settings, this course is for you.

    • 12-week course.
    • Blended format, alternating between 2 to 4 hours of self-directed online assignments one week, and a 2.5-hour class in person the next.

    Winter 2021 session (January to April)

    • 12-week course, 2 hours each week.

    Give your French communication skills a boost with these multi-day, hands-on courses. With lessons taking place both inside and outside the classroom, these courses provide an immersive learning experience.

    • 4-day course.

    Let's speak French! workshops

    Would you like to practice French conversation? Develop your listening and speaking skills with these fun and interactive workshops.

    • 1.5-hour workshop each week for 7 weeks.

    Registration and testing

    Registration for the fall 2020 session is now closed. Email french.training@gov.yk.ca to get a reminder when registration opens again for the winter 2021 session.

    Registration is on a 1st-come, 1st-served basis.

    1. You will have to take a placement test before registering. Email french.training@gov.yk.ca or phone 867-667-8297 to book a free over-the-phone placement test.
    2. We will send all the information you need to register (payment details, schedule, etc.) by email.

    Course fees

    Regular courses

    $245 (no GST) for 12 classes.

    Add-on conversation workshops

    $85 (no GST) for 10 workshops.

    Written French for work communication course

    $245 (no GST) for 12 classes.

    Intensive courses

    • Beginner: $200 (no GST).
    • Intermediate and beyond: $260 (no GST).

    Let's Speak French! workshops

    $140 (no GST) for 7 workshops.

    No cost to members of the public.

  5. Register as a Government of Yukon employee

  6. Safety measures for in-person classes

    We will implement the following measures to keep everyone safe during in-person classes:

    • Classes are limited to 8 learners.
    • Learners work at separate tables, 2 meters apart.
    • Learners and instructors have to wash or disinfect hands before entering the classroom.
    • Shared surfaces and items are reduced to a minimum and disinfected before and after every class.
    • Movement in the classroom is reduced to a minimum.
    • The kitchen is not accessible to learners.
    • Learners and instructors will not come to class if they or someone in their household is sick.
    • Learners and instructors will not come to class if they or someone in their household has travelled outside of Yukon, British Columbia, N.-W. T. or Nunavut in the past 14 days.
    • Masks are not mandatory, but we encourage everyone to wear a mask when entering and leaving the classroom.
    • Should the public health situation change in Yukon, we will deliver all in-person classes on Zoom for the rest of the session.
