Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee tabled Bill No. 13 today, proposing an amendment to the Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act that would require a review of the legislation.
The Government of Yukon is committed to completing a comprehensive review of the Act. The review will begin in 2023 in order to allow the Department of Justice time to prepare for a full review of the legislation.
Yukoners deserve to live in communities that are safe for them and their families. The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act provides a complaint driven process for addressing illegal activity in neighbourhoods and communities. A review of the Act will strengthen the measures to ensure that it continues to serve Yukoners and works to keep our communities safe.

The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act was brought into force in 2006.
The SCAN Unit enforces the SCAN Act.
The SCAN Unit is complaint-driven, and only begins an investigation after receiving a complaint.
The SCAN Unit has protocols in place with nine Yukon First Nations governments.
