Community Development Fund advances 12 Yukon-based projects

This news release has been updated to include the project from the Village of Haines Junction as well as a revised amount awarded through the Community Development Fund.

Through the Community Development Fund (CDF), the Government of Yukon is supporting local projects that will strengthen the economic resiliency of the territory.

The CDF provides funding to a broad range of projects that have measurable social, cultural and economic benefits for Yukoners and support the wellbeing of Yukon communities. These may include: research and planning; training or skill development; improvements to buildings or lands; and special events. These projects encourage local spending and create employment opportunities.

From intakes in January 2025, the Government of Yukon awarded $880,657 through the CDF to support community-led projects across the territory.

Seven projects received Tier 1 funding, which is available to organizations seeking less than $20,000 in funding:

  • Haines Junction Community Association – $5,400: To support the 2025 Dakwäkäda – Haines Junction farmers market.
  • Heat Yukon Volleyball Club – $8,000: To hire HITT Volleyball to facilitate a camp and workshop.
  • Les Essentielles – $8,427: To host a 30th anniversary celebration.

  • Yukon Arts Centre – $14,120: To purchase in-ear monitors for performers.
  • Yukon Rugby Federation – $11,500: To develop a five-year strategic plan.

Five projects received Tier 3 funding, which is available to organizations seeking funding over $75,000:

  • Bethany Pentecostal Tabernacle (Camp Yukon) – $93,310: To replace the Camp Yukon septic system.
  • Friends of Mount Sima Society – $250,000: To purchase a Snowcat replacement.
  • Polarettes & Polar Tumblers Gymnastics Club – $250,000: For the Polarettes equipment project.
  • Victoria Faulkner Women's Centre – $91,263: For renovation upgrades to improve accessibility at the women's centre.
  • Village of Haines Junction – $110,000: To support a community-led design process for a new recreation centre. This project is a partnership between the Village of Haines Junction and the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

The next deadline to apply to the Community Development Fund for Tier 1 funding (projects under $20,000) is May 15, 2025. Advisors are available to meet with people who have an idea to enrich their community and can help identify targeted, achievable and creative goals.

Our government is committed to supporting local projects and initiatives that will strengthen Yukon communities and build long-term economic resiliency. The Community Development Fund is an excellent example of this. These recipients prove that innovation and community spirit are strong across the territory. We will continue to invest in a future where ideas can grow and Yukoners can thrive.
