COVID-19 outbreak ends at Thomson Centre long-term care home

The Yukon’s acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Catherine Elliott has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at the Thomson Centre long-term care home officially over.

The care home was closed on February 8, 2022, following the confirmation of several linked COVID-19 cases. Additional measures were put in place and no additional cases were identified. Staff worked diligently over the weekend to ensure all cleaning protocols were completed and the Thomson Centre could reopen for visitors today.

Current visitation and outing guidelines will remain in place at all long-term care homes until March 2. The measures and policies in long-term care homes are continually reevaluated as the risk from COVID-19 changes. It’s important to balance any risks with the benefits from services and visitors that are so important for residents’ wellbeing.

By declaring the COVID-19 outbreak at the Thomson Centre long-term care home officially over, there are no longer any active COVID-19 outbreaks in the territory.

I am pleased to be able to declare the outbreak at Thomson Centre over. I am thankful to the staff, residents and families who have been doing outstanding work to manage these outbreaks and ensure we can get back to normal and minimize disruptions.
