Joint news release with the Council of Yukon First Nations and Yukon First Nations governments

Yukon’s Premier, Cabinet members, Council of Yukon First Nations' Grand Chief and Yukon First Nations Chiefs met today at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse for the fourth Yukon Forum of 2019.

Leaders discussed traditional knowledge and received an update from the Yukon Advisory Committee regarding developing a Yukon strategy in response to the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Leaders provided an update on an education data sharing agreement between the Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations.

Leaders also discussed and debriefed Yukon Days meetings held in Ottawa the week of December 2, 2019. This year’s trilateral meetings were an opportunity for the Government of Yukon and Yukon First Nations governments to present shared priorities to the newly appointed federal Cabinet ministers.

Yukon Forum continues to foster open and honest conversations that strengthen respectful government-to-government relationships in Yukon. The commitment and collaboration that has come from Yukon Forum, both from leadership and from those implementing the Joint Priority Action Plan, has advanced important initiatives that are improving the lives of all Yukoners.

Premier Sandy Silver

Yukon Forum has proved to be an important venue for leaders to listen to one another and collaborate. We’ve made progress on many issues of priority to Yukon First Nations in 2019. We look forward to seeing more results in 2020.

Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston
