The Government of Yukon is seeking nominations for the 2023 Government of Yukon Sports Awards.
The territory’s athletes are recognized with two awards: the Premier’s Award of Sport Excellence, which recognizes achievements on the international and national stage and the Minister’s Award of Sport Recognition, which is linked to regional events.
Nomination forms are available on Yukon.ca and athletes can be nominated up to January 15, 2024. The awards recognize an athlete’s accomplishments during the 2023 calendar year.
For the first time since the pandemic, an in-person awards ceremony will be held on February 12, 2024, at 6 pm at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse.
Yukon athletes saw tremendous success in 2023. The year featured the Arctic Winter Games, the Canada Winter Games, the North American Indigenous Games and numerous national events. This is the territory’s opportunity to recognize the success of our passionate Yukon athletes. Our government is honoured to present the Premier’s Award and Minister’s Award, and we cannot wait to do that in person.

The Premier’s Awards of Sport Excellence are presented in recognition of Yukon athletes who have excelled at provincials, western Canadian and national and international competitions. An athlete or team must accomplish one of the following while representing the Yukon or Canada;
- they must win a gold medal or all-star designation at Provincials or Western Canadian Championship;
- they must win a gold, silver or bronze medal or receive all-star designation at National Championships, Canada Games, Western Canada Summer Games or Major International events; and
- they must participate as a member of Team Canada at the Olympics, Paralympics, Pan- or Para-Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games or a World Championship.
The Minister’s Awards of Sport Recognition are presented to Yukon athletes who have excelled at the Arctic Winter Games, North American Indigenous Games, 55+ Games, Provincials and Western Canadian Championships. An athlete or team must accomplish one of the following while representing the Yukon.
- They must win a gold medal at the Arctic Winter Games, North American Indigenous Games or 55+ Games.
- They must win a Silver or Bronze Medal or all-star designation at Provincials or Western Canadian Championship or International Competitions (that have fewer than five competitors in the event).
Nominations are put forward by the Yukon’s territorial sport organizations.
A selection committee will determine if the athletes meet the award criteria.
